Steampunk is fun!

 I recently started working on some pieces for a local Day of the Dead parade and Victorian Ball. When I was asked to participate, I thought, I don’t do skulls. Turns out, yes I do!

 I am having the most fun I’ve had in a while creating pieces. I’m recycling, repurposing, staining with coffee grinds, painting, cold enameling, casting resin and concrete skulls. I’m integrating old broken jewelry, vintage lace and scarves, found objects, bezels and SKULLS! I’m loving it.

 Even my dress is recycled. I found it at a thrift store and have been building the bustle with salvaged dryer softener sheets. Of course i dyed it to look like I crawled out of a grave:]

On to my next project

So the Emmy's are behind me and I have to say, what a ride! The excitement around #craftingtheemmys was incredible. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Now, on to my next project.
I've connected with the great folks at the Makers Square in Fort Lauderdale to help with a Victorian themed Day of the Dead formal ball, Danse Macabre. Doesn't that sound fun?
Now I'm not normally into skulls, but I have to say I've been rocking it!
Here’s a look at some of my skull jewelry. I've even worked in some items for the guys. These one of a kind pieces have still got a little of my bohemian vibe while preserving the planet :]

Fun on the Ice Resin® design team

In the last year my creative world has been spinning!! (That's a good thing).
Last fall I became part of Susan Lenart Kasmer's design team. Now, since I think Susan is God, this has been a dream come true:] I have also been introduced to her wonder team, including business partner Jen Cushman, Kristen Robinson and Carol La Valley, amongst others.

 I've been give an opportunity to play. With cool stuff. Each month. Now let me explain...one a month I receive a mystery box with components for my next project. Not knowing what you'll get is half the fun of it. I have mastered Ice Resin®, been introduced to Iced Enamels and Rue Romantique, and dabbled in Industrial Chic. Here's some of the fun I've experienced~

Fun at Anthropologie hosted by AG Jeans

Thursday night crafting event @ Anthropologie in Aventura hosted by AG Jeans. AG is an eco minded company using Ozone technology and is made in Los Angeles (Yay to made in the USA).It was a fun night spent decorating AG tote bags with fabric and jewels which were recycled damaged items from Anthro. We talked and made new friends (and drank champagne :) A good time was had by all. Thank you AG & Anthro!

It's a new year

 

Every year I look forward to January. It's fresh start, a time to take chances, chances you didn't take last year. Two weeks into the new year and I'm off spinning. I have to say, sometimes my drive amazes me. What will I learn next, what's my next move. The older I get the less time there is to waste. This year I see great things happening and I can't help but think how fortunate am I. 2013 is here and I'm prepared for takeoff!

 Just back from Milwaukee where I attended the Bead & Button show. WOW! So much good information from some of the countries best teachers.
I started with Robert Dancik’s faux bone class and it was AMAZING. You can carve it, shave it, cut it and ink it. My ring looks Frank Lloyd Wright meets primative stone. The embedded a worn piece of brick was found in Seattle while at Artfest. It’s a truly unique nontoxic pvc product. For someone so organic, I find myself in love with pvc now ;] The 9 hours we spent with him were fun. He started the class with a singing bowl, filled it with fun & knowledge, and ended it with compliments. What an interesting guy he is.
Next on to Kim St Jean’s class where we hammered the crap out of metal! How fun. Fold forming, texturing and annealing was on the menu that night.
And then there was steel wire wrapping with Brenda Schweder. LOVED THIS CLASS! Since I Work with so many found objects, Brenda trap and capture techniques are something I’ll use forever, as I can literally suspend anything (here I trapped a piece of sea glass also found in Seattle).
Last but not least was Melissa Manley’s enameling class. Ahh, the possibilities with enamel…(and the palette of colors) What a beautiful soul Melissa is. I liked her from the start and ended up chatting with her over lunch. Maybe I’ll see you in the NW one day.
New friendships were formed and I ran into my favorite teacher, Susan Lenart Kazmer, always a pleasure. With so much new inspiration, there will be lots of new pieces flying off my workbench in the next few weeks. Don’t worry, I’ll keep you posted.

June is approaching

June is approaching and the Bead & Button Show in Milwaukee is on my mind. I love learning and have signed up with some of the best forging and emaneling teachers.
Along with my necessary tools, I'm also bringing along an aluminum hairspray can and tin cans to experiment with. I'll be learning techniques to manipulate metal with hammers as well as emameling glass onto metal. Oh, and a class working with faux bone. How cool is that?
Being a child at heart, I'm excited for this adventure and the new friendships that will form. Besides that, what new jewelry designs will I come up with next? Stay tuned...
