Spring trends 2014

Spring is here! You know what that means? Spring trends. Now I'm not trendy, never have been, but who doesn't like a few new pieces in their wardrobe? So I like to keep an eye out. First up Pantone radiant orchid. Not sure how I feel about this one, reminds me a little of Barney the dinosaur.

Heels and socks; Ok, I've been doing this for years and people thought I was crazy :)

Tribal touches; I'm on board. Let's just not go overboard with this please.

Flowing pants; Now this I can dig! Soft, feminine, and no muffin top!

Bottom line here, take what you like from the latest releases and put your own twist on it. Create your own style. Be you; don't buy an outfit off the mannequin! Happy spring! Peace, Jomama

Living a creative life

The other day I was listening to TED talks about creativity. One of the speakers said that everyone copies someone. It's called inspiration. Then, when you're ready, your own ideas take off. There is definitely truth to this. Think about how many times you've seen something and made it. Then, you asked yourself, what if... What if I add this? What if I change that? And so, the creative process moves forward. The thing about creativity is that it comes and goes. The important thing is to surround yourself with creative people and things. When you hit a block, don't be afraid to push that project aside and then come back to it, even if months have passed. It's like taking a vacation from it and you'll see it in a new light! AMAZING molding putty: For the love of..

This necklace was made using Amazing molding putty, concrete, pewter, resin, birch bark, leather, wire and rivets. After making the mold with Amazing molding putty, I poured concrete into part of the mold and allowed it to cure. Next I poured molten pewter over top to fill mold. Then I attached it to the red leather heart and brown leather with rivets. It's finished with a crochet wire chain. For the love of...NATURE!

Handmade Holiday's Blog hop

             

 Welcome to the 3rd annual Handmade Holiday’s Blog Hop! Aren’t handmade gifts the best? 

As part of the Ice Resin design team, I was asked to participate in this blog hop. I received some fun items from Walnut Hollow and Clearsnap to work with, as well as Ice Resin. Let’s jump in!

 I started with the wooden bistro sign which I lightly sanded and applied a light coat of acrylic paint. 

 

 Next I moved on to the Magic stamp. Using a heat gun and block of wood I created a wood grain stamp that I transferred to the bistro sign. The grain was then laid over the pre painted board using the Surfacez Caribbean ink. After this step, I applied torn tissue paper with decoupage for a light, transparent texture.

 

The lettering was also done using theSurfacez ink.

Next, the ampersand was painted and text applied, followed by smalll tack nails to attach. Lastly, a top coat of Ice Resin was applied to seal the deal!

Creating with Connie Crystal

I recently had the good fortune to work with Connie Crystal during #CraftingTheEmmys. They were nice enough to supply the Ice Resin Design Team with some of their beautiful crystals. Though many were used in my charms for the Emmy’s, I did manage to save a few for myself ;]

Here are photos of a scarf/ necklace I made for the Victorian Day of the dead ball. I cast the skull with Ice Resin and painted it, built a bezel and filled it with resin, floated Iced Enamels Fire opal within it. I attached the beautiful crystals supplied by Connie Crystal and attached it to a vintage scarf. I can't wait to wear it!

Steampunk is fun!

 I recently started working on some pieces for a local Day of the Dead parade and Victorian Ball. When I was asked to participate, I thought, I don’t do skulls. Turns out, yes I do!

 I am having the most fun I’ve had in a while creating pieces. I’m recycling, repurposing, staining with coffee grinds, painting, cold enameling, casting resin and concrete skulls. I’m integrating old broken jewelry, vintage lace and scarves, found objects, bezels and SKULLS! I’m loving it.

 Even my dress is recycled. I found it at a thrift store and have been building the bustle with salvaged dryer softener sheets. Of course i dyed it to look like I crawled out of a grave:]

On to my next project

So the Emmy's are behind me and I have to say, what a ride! The excitement around #craftingtheemmys was incredible. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Now, on to my next project.
I've connected with the great folks at the Makers Square in Fort Lauderdale to help with a Victorian themed Day of the Dead formal ball, Danse Macabre. Doesn't that sound fun?
Now I'm not normally into skulls, but I have to say I've been rocking it!
Here’s a look at some of my skull jewelry. I've even worked in some items for the guys. These one of a kind pieces have still got a little of my bohemian vibe while preserving the planet :]
